Beverley Hanley Dip MBACP

Therapist & Counsellor

Hi, I’m Beverley.

I am a highly qualified therapist with many years of experience in counselling, specialising in bereavement, grief, domestic abuse, relationship issues and mental health problems.

I bring care, respect and compassion to my clients, ensuring that you feel supported and listened to. I pride myself on having spent a lifetime as a gifted listener.

My goal is to empower you to grow in the ways most important to you.

It takes courage to recognise that you may need a helping hand or someone to help bear the heavy weight that you may be carrying. It can be difficult to turn to our loved ones for fear that we may be judged or not understood.

I offer a safe, confidential space for you to be heard, exploring the issues that are troubling you with a non-judgement approach and at your own pace.

As a professional counsellor, I work to the BACP Ethical Standards. I am committed to working with every client in a respectful and empathetic way.

Everyone has walked different paths in life and I am here to help you find solutions, be it making effective changes in your life or finding strategies to cope with your issues.

Pet Bereavement

The death of a pet can be a devastating loss and you may experience shock, anger, pain, hurt and overwhelming grief. I am here to help by understanding how you are feeling and what the loss means to you.

Domestic Abuse

One to one counselling helping you to explore, understand and move on. Domestic abuse is not your fault, and you are not alone.

Mental Health & Wellbeing

Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act and it is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Bereavement Counselling

Helping you following the loss of a loved one with the feelings associated with grief. I work with you to reach a healthy resolution and enable you to move on with your life.

What To Expect

Most of our sessions will take place as planned, regular sessions which will last for around 50 minutes. How often we meet and how many appointments are needed will depend on your individual circumstance and will be agreed between us.

You might wish to have appointments alone, as part of a couple or with family. We can meet at the clinic, talk over the phone or online or I offer an exclusive face-to-face walking therapy, where we can walk through beautiful countryside for our sessions.

During our sessions, we may go through exercises designed to help develop solutions to your problem, or we may have a more general discussion on how you’re feeling.

This could involve relationship issues, thoughts on your childhood, or current or past experiences you are struggling with.

I act as an impartial and understanding support for you during these sessions, ensuring to listen to you without judgement and helping you to explore the emotions that arise. I will offer suggestions and strategies to help you to move forward with these feelings, however I will never tell you what you should think or do.

Why Choose Counselling?

Therapy offers a safe and confidential space for you to share your issues with a trained professional. Together, we will explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a healthier understanding of yourself and others.

I will help you find your own solutions- whether that be making effective changes in your life or finding coping strategies for your issues. I will not give you my own opinions or prescribe medication.

"We cannot change, we cannot move away from what we are until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed."

― Carl R. Rogers

Ways to Work

I offer short-term counselling of single sessions, couple sessions, three, six or twelve sessions as well as longer-term work. Short-term counselling tends to focus on a single issue and for some people this is sufficient to resolve the particular problem that has brought them to see a therapist. For others, the deeper exploration provided by longer-term therapy is more useful. Usually we would discuss this at our initial assessment, taking into account what you are looking for from counselling and what I think would be most useful for you.
